Asi Wind (Incredibly Human)

Following the success of his sold-out New York show, Asi Wind brings his new stage production Incredibly Human, which is captivating audiences over the festive period until 5th January 2025 at the Underbelly Boulevard Soho. We took the opportunity to speak to Asi to tell us more about this captivating show.

Q: Before we begin, please can you introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about your work?

I am Asi Wind and I am a full-time Magician. I was fortunate to discover my passion when I was a kid at around age 13, and it was clear to me that magic would be my occupation for the rest of my life.

Q: What initially drew you into the world of magic and inspired you to make this your career?

I believe in hindsight that as much as I loved watching magic as a spectator, I thought that magic could help me with my insecurities. It would help me make friends and connect with people. As the years went by, I realised that every time I perform magic, it’s a collaboration with the audience. I’ve met people who, no matter what you would show them, will dismiss the magic by saying oh, it’s sleight of hand or I know it’s just a trick. The sensation of true magic happens only when you have an eager audience who chooses to see magic.

Q: How have you found the process of creating this show ready to put on stage? What challenges have you faced along the way?

This show has been many years in the making. My goal for the show was to celebrate the human mind, especially in this day and age where we obsess with technology and artificial intelligence. I don’t hide the fact that I find those types of technologies threatening. I feel that technology as a tool to help us live a better life is wonderful, but when the tool becomes the agent, the thinker, and the decision-maker, it could be a threat to humanity. The technology behind magic is quite simple, yet it could be breathtaking. It could bring people to tears. I hope that Incredibly Human reminds people of the wonderful things we can do on our own.

Q: What strategies have you used to ensure that this show is a spectacle but still feels intimate and allows audiences to connect with it?

I have always preferred interactive magic. My shows are conversations with the audience because I believe that’s when true magic happens. Even though the magic in the show is quite powerful, I don’t present it as “look at me or look at what I could do”. My aim is for the audience and I to experience the magic together.

Q: How does it feel bringing this show to London, and how are you hoping audiences will resonate with this show?

London is one of my favourite cities in the world. I find this city so charming, diverse, and beautiful. I know most people go to a magic show to see the impossible, and I believe I can deliver on that front, but I really hope they walk away with something more. Magic has the power to provoke the mind and make people question reality in a new way and walk away, reminded of the wonderful things we all can do if we choose to.

Incredibly Human plays at Underbelly Boulevard Soho until 5th January 2025. For tickets and more information, you can follow the link here.
