A Midsummer Night's Dream & Twelfth Night | Theatr Clwyd

For those die hard literature or theatre fans that can sometimes find Shakespeare a little confusing, or just a little bit boring, then look no further than 440 Theatre's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream & Twelfth Night: Double Bill. Shakespeare has been adapted in many forms for both film and TV and on stage over the years, but what sets this production apart is 440 Theatre's ambitious and playful way in telling some of Shakespeare's greatest work in forty minutes with just four actors.

440 Theatre are formed of an incredibly talented and experienced bunch of performers, and at this performance we were honoured to witness the talents of Dom Gee-Burch, Lizzie Robin, Alice Merivale and Ben Locke, who is a regular performer at Theatr Clwyd's annual Christmas pantomimes. Together, what they create is completely unique and impressive, if not a little chaotic and slightly questionable at times.

Gee-Burch, who is a founder and director of 440 Theatre, has mastered his technique of comedic timing and interaction with the audience which provides some of the biggest laughs of the evening. Merivale is strong in her ability to quickly adapt her characterisations to play an array of different characters. Robin's performance is infectious as she bounces off her interactions with the other characters, and she is a joy to watch. Locke continues to prove himself as a great comedy actor and commands the stage with his stage presence, with his quick-thinking and impressive ability in responding and interacting to the chaos that ensues on stage.

Audiences can expect creative, albeit questionable, props, wigs and costumes, catchy songs, audience participation and high energy and face paced storytelling. Full to the brim with humour, whilst still staying true to Shakespeare's work, 440 Theatre provides a whistle-stop, engaging introduction to Shakespare, which will delight audiences ranging from a Shakespeare mega-fan, to a Shakespeare novice.

440 Theatre regularly tour the UK with many of Shakespeare's works. To keep up to date with news and to purchase tickets, you can follow the link here.
